Beyond Pencils and Paper
What is the Grants 4 Teachers program?
As a teacher, you often have great ideas of how better to engage your students in various topics. However, you may find that budget constraints can put a wet blanket on your ideas. Foundation for Roanoke Valley, which has “Education” as one of its three primary grants focus areas, is implementing the Grants 4 Teachers program to help bring to the classroom innovative activities to stimulate your students. The grants are designed to fund-highly creative but low-cost ideas, to promote new collaborations among teachers or departments, and to make possible fun but educational classroom experiences that would otherwise not be available.
What size grants are available?
Grants up to $250 will be awarded.
What kind of project or program qualifies?
While there are no limits for creative minds, certain things such as professional seminars, continuing education, large equipment, computers, travel, and ordinary day-to-day supplies will typically not be funded. The key concepts are ‘innovative’ and ‘designed to stimulate learning’!
Who can apply?
This program is open to teachers in grades K-12 in Roanoke City and Roanoke County Public Schools for the 2011-2012 school year.
When can teachers apply and receive grants?
There will be one grant cycle per year. The grant cycle for the 2011-2012 school year will run from September 1, 2011 through September 30, 2011. All applications must be submitted no later than September 30, 2011 at 4 p.m. Grants will be awarded in November 2011.
